About
Australia’s free marketplace for electric rides
eRideList is 100% Australian-owned, and the site and its database are hosted here in Australia, in the Sydney region.
We built it because general online marketplaces and car sales sites were never designed for electric rides. Buyers need straight answers about battery health, range, motor power and charger certification. Sellers need a simple way to give them. eRideList makes both easy.
Our mission
Every Australian should be able to buy, sell, hire or service an electric ride without barriers. The site is completely free for everyone — no ad fees, no commission, no success fees.
We list only the things that support a greener future: transport that helps more people move away from fossil fuels and cut their emissions.
Why eRideList exists
Australia is switching to electric transport, but the second-hand market still runs on sites built for general goods, or for petrol cars with EVs bolted on afterwards. The questions that actually decide a purchase go unanswered:
- How much battery life is left?
- What driver-assistance or self-driving features does it have?
- Is there a battery warranty, and how much of it is left?
- Is a charger or charging cable included?
Each ad form here is shaped around the kind of ride or service being offered, so a seller is asked for the details that matter and a buyer sees them laid out plainly, instead of buried in a paragraph of description.
What makes us different
- State legality checks. Power and speed limits differ sharply between states, and a device that is legal in one may not be legal in another. We check what the seller has declared against each state’s rules and show the result on the ad.
- Battery safety first. Ads are expected to carry certification details, and our rules and battery safety reference sets out the standards that apply to bikes, scooters, batteries and chargers.
- Every ad is read by a person before it goes live — normally within 24 hours. That is a check against our e-ride and EV content rules, not a check that the ad details are accurate or a guarantee about the item, and we are careful never to pretend otherwise.
- Clear seller labels. Private sellers and businesses sit side by side but are clearly marked, so you know who you are dealing with and what consumer rights come with it.
- Two-way ratings. Buyers and sellers can rate each other, based on people who actually messaged about an ad.
What you can do here
- Post a free ad to buy, sell, hire or offer a service — charger installation, repairs, EV hire, e-bike hire and more.
- Add up to 10 photos to every ad, and more for EVs, PH-EVs and H-EVs for sale.
- Keep an ad running as long as you need. Ads run for 30 days, and renewing is free, takes one click and needs no second review — we email you a reminder three days before it expires.
- Search by your own area to find buyers, sellers, renters and service providers near you.
- Only interested in one kind of ride, say a full EV or an e-bike? Tap Filters under the search box, pick the category, offer type, price, condition and distance you care about, and choose Save this search. It stays in your Saved searches, so next time you see only what you are after, without setting it all up again. Your last search is also remembered on Home and Browse.
- Wrecked or written-off? List it as a Wreck so people looking for parts or a project can find it, and browse wrecks and parts yourself when you need a spare.
- Read and write posts on the community blog — buying guides, builds, rides, reviews, charging tips, or lessons from your own e-ride or EV. Anyone with an account can write a post; a person reads each one before it is published (normally within 24 hours), and you choose whether your name shows on it. It is a good way to help others and share what you have learned.
- Use the whole site comfortably on a phone, with scam guidance built into the pages where it matters rather than buried in a help centre.
For shops, dealers and other businesses
eRideList is free for businesses too, the same as for private sellers. Every ad says who is selling, so buyers know what consumer rights come with it:
- Private — someone selling their own item. No ABN needed.
- Sole trader — one person trading under their own name, with an ABN.
- Business, dealer, broker, importer, distributor or reseller — shops, hire companies, service providers, car and e-ride dealers, and the businesses that bring items into Australia. These ads show an ABN and company name, and importers and distributors also give a compliance reference and a warranty and recall contact.
ABN check. When an ABN is entered we check it against the Australian Business Register and show the result on the ad as an ABN verified badge, refreshed about once a week, including whether the business name matches. It confirms the ABN is real and active, not that the seller is that business, so buyers should still do their own checks.
Your own shop page. A business can set up a shop page that shows all its live ads in one place, with opening hours and where to find it, and add more than one location if it has several. Share the link with customers, and pick the shop when you post an ad so it fills in the details for you.
We are a small start-up — and we take no commission
eRideList is run by a small Australian team, not a division of a large online marketplace or car sales group. That shapes everything about how we work.
We take no cut from anyone — not sellers, not buyers, not service providers. No ad fees, no success fees, no paid boosts, no subscriptions. We never handle your money, so there is nothing for us to take a percentage of. When you agree a price with someone here, the whole amount goes to the seller or service provider.
In future we may work with a small number of sponsors whose work fits what we do — charging, servicing, safety, insurance — to cover running costs. Any sponsor will be clearly labelled as one. Sponsorship will never buy a better position in search results, and we will never charge a seller to be seen.
What our support can and cannot do
Being small has a real downside, and we would rather say it plainly than let you discover it: we do not have the support resources of an established marketplace. There is no call centre, no live chat and no overnight team. Support runs through the contact form, handled by the same people who build the site.
- General questions — bug reports, account queries, feature ideas — are answered as quickly as we can, which is sometimes a few days rather than a few minutes. We read every message.
- Safety and scam reports jump the queue. A report about a scam, a fake trader, an unsafe or recalled product, or unlawful content is not best-efforts — those are handled to the timeframes we commit to in our Terms and Conditions. If something here looks dangerous, tell us and it goes to the front.
- We cannot settle disputes between members. We are not a party to your sale and have no power to award a refund or force anyone to do anything. What we can do is act on the ad and the account, and point you to the people who can help — your state fair trading body, the relevant tribunal, or the ACCC.
We would rather be honest about our limits than over-promise and let you down at the moment you need us.
Our commitment to a greener future
The greenest vehicle is usually the one that already exists. Keeping an electric bike, scooter or car in service for a second and third owner avoids the emissions of building a replacement, keeps a working battery out of the waste stream for longer, and helps more Australians move away from fossil fuels.
A healthy second-hand market is one of the more useful things you can build for transport emissions. That is why the site is free — and why we list only electric and hybrid transport.
What we are not
We are a noticeboard, not a dealer, broker or payment service. We never hold your money, never take a cut, and are not a party to any sale or booking. We do not inspect, test or verify what is listed — our review checks an ad against our rules, and nothing more.
The Terms and Conditions spell that out, and the FAQ covers what protections you do and do not get when buying privately versus from a business.
