Getting a battery health report before you sell your EV
What a battery state-of-health report is, where to get one in Australia (from about $200), and how to share it with buyers on eRideList.
The battery is the most expensive part of a used EV and the one buyers can't see. A proper report turns "trust me" into a number, and an ad with a report gives buyers far less reason to haggle.
What the report tells a buyer
The key figure is state of health (SoH): how much of the battery's original capacity is left, as a percentage. A good report also gives a realistic driving range at today's capacity, not just the figure from when the car was new.
Three levels of evidence
- Independent test. An AVILOO Flash test plugs into the car and takes a few minutes with it parked. It gives a certificate with SoH and range. In Australia and New Zealand it is offered through the Test EV network of testers (from about $200), and as an add-on to a RedBook Inspect pre-purchase inspection.
- Dealer or manufacturer report. A brand's service centre can usually run a battery check during a service.
- The car's own display. Some cars show battery health in a menu or app. It is better than nothing, but it is the car's own estimate, and buyers know that.
Sharing it on eRideList
- When you post the ad, set Battery health report to the type you have, and enter the SoH %. Ads with an independent or dealer report get a "Battery report" badge, and buyers can filter for them.
- On your live ad, use Attach report to upload the PDF or a photo. Cover your name and address first; leave the VIN showing, because that is what proves the report belongs to this car.
- The report stays private. Buyers tap Request report, you get a message, and you choose who can see it.
